Opposite the Maggie Cafe on the bank of the Limbang River, I saw this sign, which tells you in three different languages not to throw rubbish, or face a fine of $500.The first and third of these languages are not surprising: Malay (given that Limbang is in Malaysia and many of its inhabitants are Malays); and Chinese (seeing as there are lots of Chinese people in the town of Limbang).
But the second language is more unusual: Iban. I have never seen Iban written before, though I am told there are some books and magazines published in the language.
It is encouraging to see some official support for the Iban language, even if it is only an admonishment not to throw rubbish.
